Mike Snelling was appointed to the Authority in the summer of 2009.
Mike, aged 64, has been Leader of Gravesham Borough Council since 26 June 2007. Mike is from Meopham and has been married for 40 years and has two married daughters, one of whom lives in Sydney, Australia. He also has four grandsons.
At 16 Mike left school to pursue a banking career. He gained a banking degree at evening classes and went on to be a successful bank manager at several Kent and South London branches with Westminster and NatWest Banks for 38 years.
He retired as a Senior Corporate Bank Manager to pursue a career in local politics. He has been a Gravesham Borough Councillor for 22 years and a Kent County Councillor for Gravesham Rural for eight years. Mike is lead member for Finance for Kent County Council.
He is a long standing Rotarian and a past president; he is involved in the local church and is a local school governor. As well as a past president of Bexley/Greenwich Chamber of Commerce.
