Purpose and responsibilities
The Policing Performance Committee consists of nine members who review and assess police performance in the county, as well as considering specialist aspects of policing. The committee meets four times a year.
The Policing Performance Committee will:
- monitor the performance of the Kent Police against the objectives agreed in the Kent Police Authority/Force in the Policing Strategy and Plan.
- monitor the performance of Kent Police against any objectives and targets agreed through local partnership arrangements.
- consider the performance of Kent Police in regard to provision of 'protective services' as defined by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC). (The 10 Protective Services are Civil Contingencies, Counter Terrorism, Critical Incident Management, Domestic Extremism, Firearms, Major Crime, Public Order, Public Protection, Serious and Organised Crime and Strategic Roads Policing.)
- consider reports of HMIC, Audit Commission and any other external agency with implications or commentary on Kent Police performance.
- consider reports of internal reviews in accordance with the programme determined by the Kent Police Authority Audit and Governance Committee.
- plan and monitor the Kent Police Authority’s consultation arrangements, consider the views expressed and make recommendations to the Chief Constable or Authority.
- monitor Kent Police's compliance with its duties to children and other vulnerable persons.
- monitor Kent Police's co-operation with other criminal justice partners.
- monitor government, Association of Police Authorities and other external agency proposals, advice and actions related to the committee and advise the Authority or Chief Constable as appropriate.
- consider risks and risk management in relation to any matter within its terms of reference.
