Audit & Governance Committee

Purpose and responsibilities

The Audit and Governance Committee monitors Kent Police's income and spending. The committee is also responsible for all other financial matters.

The Audit and Governance Committee will:

  • make sure that the police force is achieving best value for money and that all legal requirements are met
  • approve the Kent Police Authority annual accounts
  • monitor the capital expenditure programme and give advice to the Chief Constable and the Kent Police Authority as appropriate
  • approve the internal and external auditing procedures and consider the auditor’s report and put forward any recommendations
  • act on behalf of the Kent Police Authority in relation to treasury management, risk management and insurance
  • ensure effective corporate governance within Kent Police
  • monitor government, police authorities and other external agency’s policies and actions relating to financial management and advise the Kent Police Authority or Chief Constable as appropriate
