Our statutory duty
Kent Police Authority has a statutory duty to promote diversity, within Kent Police Authority and Kent Police. We discharge this duty principally by holding the Force to account for its promotion of diversity.
Our policies
Kent Police have adopted a Single Equality Scheme with the support of the Authority. The scheme looks at:
• how fairness and diversity is reflected in policies and procedures
• encouraging and monitoring diversity within the workforce
• consultation with diverse communities throughout Kent and Medway
• improving access to premises and services for everyone
• publication of assessments, consultation and monitoring
• targets and plans to help improve the service to all sections of the community
The Force has set objectives to progress the Equality Standard for the Police Service which have been endorsed by the Authority.
Kent Police Independent Advisory Group
The Kent Police Authority attends the Kent Police Strategic Independent Advisory Group. The Independent Advisory Group makes sure that Kent Police meets the needs of all members of the Kent and Medway community including all minority groups.
Authority Staff
The Authority directly employs a small number of staff to enable it to hold the Force to account. It aims, within the constraints of small numbers, to employ a diverse workforce.
