Kent Police Authority's legal duty is to investigate complaints made directly against Police Authority Members and Chief Officers: Assistant Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable and Chief Constable. It is the duty of the Professional Standards Department at Kent Police Headquarters to investigate other complaints.
Making a complaint against a Police Authority Member
If your complaint relates to a breach of the Code of Conduct by a member, it will be considered either by the Kent Police Authority's own Standards Committee or Standards for England which promotes the ethical behaviour of members who serve on a range of authorities including the police.
Kent Police Authority members follow a Code of Conduct. This sets out how they are expected to conduct themselves while undertaking their duties and responsibilities as a KPA member.
The Authority also has its own statement on how member complaints are dealt with.

Making a complaint against a Chief Officer
Complaints about the personal conduct of a Chief Officer are dealt with by the Kent Police Authority. Chief Officers include: Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables or Assistant Chief Constables.

How your complaint will be dealt with
Kent Police investigate all complaints swiftly and fairly and provide you with the results of the investigation.
If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of an investigation, you can contact the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). The IPCC is a statutory body and they may manage an investigation relating to the conduct of police officers and staff or, in some cases, conduct an enquiry themselves.
